Consul Sheryll Gabutero attended the Queensland history symposium Research Reveals on 6 March 2026, where Dr Carl Anacin presented insights from his 2025 Letty Katts Fellowship project at the State Library of Queensland.

Dr Anacin’s research, “Migration, Musical Practices and Belonging among Filipino Migrants in Queensland: Festivals, Music Industry Participation and Everyday Lives,” explores how Filipino migrants express identity and belonging through music, festivals, and cultural spaces across Queensland.

His work highlights the important role Filipino musicians, community celebrations, and events such as fiestas play in sustaining cultural identity while contributing to Queensland’s multicultural creative landscape.

The Philippine Consulate Queensland commends this important research documenting the cultural and musical contributions of Filipino migrants in the state.
